A NEW project implemented by a coastal village promotes not only the protection of the marine environment but trees as well.
Navuniivi Village turaga ni koro Josaia Mocenasavu said conservation projects were an integral part of the community.
“We have a committee in the Ra province working on the Integrated Coastal Management from Ridge to Reef project and that is why we have stopped burning trees,” he said.
“We have close to 75 households and so, one of the only sources of income is fishing. However, we are also branching out in coconut and cocoa planting.”
According to Mr Mocenasavu, this project would also ensure healthier forests around the village.
