A CHILD bullying another child is a form of abuse, says Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation permanent secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta.

While opening the month-long Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect campaign in Lautoka recently, the permanent secretary said children should not engage in abusive behaviour towards another child.

“As children seeking our intervention to protect your rights, I reiterate that you must never forget that your rights come with responsibilities,” he said.

“You cannot do to another child what should not be done to you.

“Sometimes, other children are the only help there is for an abused child.

“During this month-long celebration, I ask that you take time to reflect on your personal behaviours this past year.

“The key to stopping that behaviour is in your hands.”

He also urged victims of child abuse to call 1325 if they wanted professional assistance.

“There are hundreds of other children in Fiji going through what you are going through.

“There is an avenue for reporting such abuses – the easiest being through the toll free line 1325.”
