Prorogation of the Fijian parliament

Today marks the prorogation of Parliament.

According to a statement by the Civic Education  and Media Unit of the Parliament of Fiji, prorogation is the term for the formal end of a parliamentary session.

“Parliament stands ‘prorogued’ between the end of one session and the opening of Parliament, which marks the beginning of a new session,” the statement said.

The new session of Parliament will be opened by  the President of the Republic of Fiji, Jioji Konrote next month.

This is after on after a full military guard of honour provided by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

The State Opening will also be attended by Constitutional Officers as well as the Chief Justice, Justices of Appeal and other Puisne Judges.

Parliament will then resume on Monday,November 18, 2019 for their week-long sitting.
