FIJI Roads Authority’s latest inspection on the Tamavua-i-wai Bridge has indicated that there is deterioration.
FRA Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Moore said “We believe it is prudent to review the capacity of the bridge with our consultants as one proposal is to restrict traffic to a single lane which will be controlled by traffic signals during the night and early morning.”
Mr Moore has stated that they are having discussions with Land Transport Authority and the Road Haulage Association on the logistics around this proposal.
He adds that they anticipate that the weight restriction will come into operation during August as currently the weight allowed on the bridge is only 32 tonne.
FRA is also planning for a further maintenance to the bridge structure that will provide support to the deck as they are planning a replacement of the bridge during the next 12 months.
