The upgraded Nakama Hot Spring project in Savusavu will boost economic activities, says Local Government Minister Premila Kumar.

While opening the upgraded site earlier this week, Mrs Kumar said improving economic developments for all Fijians was Government’s priority.

“For Savusavu where there are a lot of activities to do, this project will add to the existing activities allowing everyone to enjoy the surrounding of the hot spring area,” she said.

“This project has been further developed to better utilise the area which has served as a natural kitchen and we want to maintain that part of our history while creating opportunities for Fijians.

“Like any other landmark, our role is to maintain them and with the upgrade, visitors have a place to sit and relax. Part of preserving this landmark is keeping the story alive and to do this, I understand there is information about the hot spring kept within the boundary for people to read.”

Mrs Kumar said the Commonwealth forum gave $60,000 while the council contributed $15,000 to complete the $75,000 project.

“This project is known as the LED project and was made possible through an ongoing partnership with stakeholders.

“The project has been completed through the Ministry of Local Government, the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, Savusavu Town Council and other partners such as the Savusavu Tourism Association, Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and the Blue Town committee.”
