The $300 million water project in Viria, Naitasiri will source enough water to service everybody for 24 hours and seven days a week.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this at a 2022-2023 budget consultation in Nausori yesterday.

“If you go past Waila towards ACS you will see a lot of laying of pipes and this is costing us nearly $300 million,” he said.

“We are getting a new water source from Viria; it will give us more than enough water to service everybody 24/7 with water supply.”

He said more people were moving to Suva and everybody wanted water.

“The water pipes we are dealing with were built 50 years ago, 60 years ago and now we have to build more capacity.

“Unfortunately because of COVID it was slightly delayed.”

He said 17 of the 25 kilometres of water pipes had already been laid.

“So by May next year, the Viria water supply will essentially solve all the water woes. In fact, we will be able to extend the water system even further beyond Nausori.”
