ONE of the Sugar City’s biggest investments, Amex Resources Ltd’s $100 million port facility under construction at the Queens Wharf, Lautoka, should be completed by October. Company Fiji operations general manager Alivereti Tuidravuni said construction work on the iron ore processing and storage facility was progressing well.
“We had a few delays, but apart from that we will finish on time,” he said.
“We were given our mining licence in October 2015, and we had to set up all of our necessary facilities by October 2018.”
He said the company would not begin work immediately after the completion of the project.
“We have to undertake some training for our staff and we are looking to hire about 250 employees when we start our full operations. “Most of our workers will be from the local market, but we will have foreign consultants from time to time to work with us in certain aspects like capacity building and staff training.”
According to the company, the port infrastructure will comprise workshop, stores, administration building, training facility, laboratory, control room and support facilities.
The first phase of the project will encompass the construction of the wharf and fully enclosed storage shed. |
