Professor Brij Vilash Lal passed away at his home in Brisbane, Australia yesterday.
“It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Professor Brij Vilash Lal. Husband to Dr Padma Lal, father of Yogi and Niraj and grandfather to Jayan, Maya, Ash, Ella and Miles, Dr Lal passed away peacefully on the morning of the 25th December at his home in Brisbane,” said the Lal family in a statement.
Colleague, mentor and friend to many across the world, Prof Lal, proud son of a girmitiya, was born in Tabia, on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji.
“Prof Lal was an accomplished Pacific historian and author, and a passionate pro-democracy activist for most of his life, and remained so until the end.”
Funeral details are expected to be shared in due course.
