The FijiFirst Government should come clean and tell the nation about the status of our economy, now that people have been told to repair deteriorated roads in their areas.
National Federation Party leader Prof Biman Prasad made this statement while responding to comments made by Commissioner Central Josefo Navuku during a talanoa session with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Delainavesi on Monday.
The commissioner told people at the meeting to find other means of fixing deteriorated community access roads while they waited on Government.
“It is shameful that a senior civil servant (Commissioner Central), responsible for implementation of development policies of Government, asked the people to fix roads in their area in the presence of the Prime Minister,” Prof Prasad said.
He said Government replaced the Public Works Department with Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to take over all roads and streets in municipalities.
“It is this Government that has allocated over $3 billion dollars to FRA over the last seven years. FRA has enjoyed the second largest chunk of the budget behind education.
“Now Government wants the people to fundraise and build roads and not acknowledge that its creation (FRA) has been a colossal disaster.”
During the talanoa session, FRA official Jese Morgan said the issue raised by residents of Nadonumai was not their responsibility.
