Proactive measures against viruses on agenda

EMPLOYMENT Minister Parveen Kumar is expected to inform Parliament today on what the ministry is doing in terms of occupational health safety (OHS) to ensure that workers at seaports, airports, and public health facilities are safe from any outbreak of coronavirus, meningococcal or other diseases.

The question is among the eight oral questions to be asked to Government in Parliament today.

Twelve annual reports will also be presented to Parliament in today’s sitting.

Other questions that will be asked include why the provision of four new dialysis machines at Lautoka Hospital and 10 new dialysis machines at the National Kidney and Research Centre as announced in the budget address in June, 2017 have not been provided, progress on the resolving of the current dispute over ownership of the Minerva Reefs, update on the number of applications processed by the births, deaths and marriages office for the Parenthood Assistance Payment Scheme and the impact on civil registration and others.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is also expected to provide an update to Parliament about the progress made so far in the sale of government assets as stipulated in the 2019-2020 budget.
