Primary schools IDC
20 October, 2016, 12:00 am
The Fiji Primary Schools IDC kicks off today at Ratu Cakobau Park, thanks to the valuable support and assistance from Vodafone Fiji Ltd, FFA, individual sponsors and the Ministry of Education. The executives of Fiji Primary School’s Soccer Association, led by Ami Chand, Shalen Nagaiya and Narendra Rao, the southern co-ordinator Rameshwar Lal and the executives of Rewa are commended and thanked for taking the initiative to organise this meet, which presents a wonderful opportunity to our budding soccer stars to showcase their talents in three days of soccer festivity, which is bound to hit Nausori Town.
I am glad that the organisers have included a girl’s team from Suva and Nasinu.
While 20 districts will show their flair in the under-14 grade, eight districts will compete in the under-12 division. This means that the defending under-14 and 12 champions Seaqaqa and Ba will face a tough challenge from the likes of Rewa, Nasinu, Suva, Labasa, Rakiraki and the Baby Blues, who returned home with the spoils from the Courts IDC.
Therefore, my best wishes to the organising committee, participating teams and their officials, parents and the match officials for a successful tournament and may the best team win!
Meanwhile, despite falling short of winning the World Rugby Americas Pacific Challenge, the Telecom Fiji Warriors won hearts with a brave performance and gallant fightback in the narrow loss to the argy-bargy.
The Warriors led 26-20 minutes before the final whistle when the hosts struck a cruel blow to score a converted try and sink our hopes of a victory away from home.
However, I was impressed with the performance of nippy full-back Lepani Raiyala, who scored three tries. Hats off and a big vinaka vakalevu to the hardworking coach Mr Seruvakula and his mighty Warriors for rising to the challenge.
