THE Rev Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa has been re-elected as the president of the Methodist Church in Fiji.

He will serve as president for one more year.

Dr Vakadewavosa is the first church president to continue his service at 70 years old.

The church secretary for communication and overseas mission, the Rev Wilfred Regunamada said according to the church’s constitution, the president’s term in office was three years and the church’s constitution only allowed its ministers to serve until 70.

He said there were other clauses in the constitution which allowed Dr Vakadewavosa to continue in office.

Following a closed door debate at the Centenary Church in Suva yesterday, the decision made by the church ministers and leaders was announced.

Dr Vakadewavosa acknowledged the leaders of the church for their trust and commitment and said he would continue to work on fulfilling the vision and mission of the church.

He said evangelism was an ideal part of the church. The church annual general meeting continues today.
