President Konrote opens 2019-2020 parliament sessions

FIJIAN President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote today officially opened the new parliamentary session for 2019/2020.

In his opening address, he said since the launch of the 2013 constitution, “we were undoubtedly living some of the consequential chapters of our history”.

“As the journey of many of the world’s democracies and economically powerful nations have taught us the quality of our leadership in these formative years will be defining for our political system,” Mr Konrote said.

“I can recall the patriotic euphoria that gripped our nation following the successful conduct of our 2014 General Elections.

“I have watched the growing pride as the excitement has produced higher public expectations for the rights we enjoy.”

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum along with other Members of Parliament were also present for this opening session.

Parliament will begin its session on Monday, November 18, 2019.
