The Navua football side upset Ba 1-nil in the Digicel Premier League at the Uprising Resort ground at Pacific Harbour in Deuba yesterday.
Super sub and veteran Apisai Smith proved to be the difference as his goal in the 91st minute ensured Navua’s first win this season.
The lanky marksman took full advantage of a pass from Netani Doli in the dying stages and blasted it past Ba stopper Tevita Koroi.
Ba went into the match leading the points table while Navua was at the bottom of the table.
The win ensured Navua to lift itself from the bottom while Ba lose the lead at the top.
Navua coach Amit Prakash was pleased with the win.
“It’s an amazing win for us. We made some hard decisions coming into the match and it has paid off for us,” he said.
“We lost three games this season and all were by a single goal.”
Navua’s win over Ba in the national league came after a lapse of 11 years.
