DEVOTEES at the Howell Rd Sri Raj Maha Mariamman Temple offered prayers to the victims of the Australian bushfires on Friday.

They were joined by Australia’s deputy high commissioner to Fiji Anna Dorney.

Temple president Ravin Swamy said the prayers were to remember those who had suffered in Australia.

“It was a special hawan for those who have been victims and we felt offering prayers for them was only proper,” said Mr Swamy.

“Our committee felt this had to be done.”

He acknowledged the participation of Ms Dorney in the prayer session.

“She did the arti, walked with the diya and participated in the hawan.”

Mr Swamy said they also made a monetary contribution.
