Cases of sacrilege was discussed and assistance offered via safe keeping of prayer donations during a meeting between the Fiji Police Force and executives of the Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha Fiji yesterday.
Fiji Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Itendra Nair said cases of sacrilege had been mostly reported in the Western Division where prayer cash donations had been the target of opportunists.
DCP Nair requested the executives to reach out to their members as a proactive measure to liaise with officers at their nearest police post or station if they know there is a large sum of money in their possession, so steps could be taken to secure the offerings in a safe place.
He said opportunists had little to no regard and respect for places of worship when they knew there was something valuable that could be stolen, which included cash, sound systems, and other valuables.
DCP Nair said prior arrangements could be made with the Officers in Charge or Station Officers of larger stations where Police had safes, where the prayer donations could be safely secured in a safe.
DCP Nair attended the meeting with Director for Community Policing SSP Mitieli Divuana.
Representatives from the Sanatan Organisation included National President Dhirendra Nand, Education Board member Ravi Singh, National Treasurer Sunil Chandra, Promotion Board Member Pradeep Singh andacting National Secretary Pundit Krishneel Tiwari.
