Praise for Fiji team

THE Singapore Rugby Union is excited to host Fiji as one of the top contenders in this year’s HSBC World Rugby Singapore 7s.

Union president Low Teo Ping said Fijians showcased fantastic brand of 7s rugby which lifted the standard of the competition.

He said the Singapore 7s started last year and had attracted many fans this year because of the success of last year’s event.

Ping said the Fijians proved too strong in Hong Kong and would be the team to beat this weekend.

“We are looking forward to watch the Fijians again this week,” he said.

“They are very interesting and fantastic to watch and we hope that more Fijian fans will be present this week to cheer on the team.”

He said the Vodafone Fiji 7s team had improved a lot as demonstrated in Hong Kong.

“The way Fiji played in Hong Kong and the way I saw them play will make them the team to beat.

“I am hoping they will do the same this weekend and it will be interesting to see how Fiji competes against their opponents.”

Meanwhile, the Osea Kolinisau-captained Fiji side completed its first full training run in Singapore yesterday.

Head coach Gareth Baber worked closely with trainer Nacani Cawanibuka sharpening all set moves as the south sea islanders prepare to deliver the goods for the country.

Fiji will face Canada, Hong Kong and Russia in the pool play on Saturday.
