AUSTRALIAN weightlifting head coach Robert Mitchell is impressed with Weightlifting Fiji and the organisers of the 2019 IWF Junior World Championships on how they organised the competition.

Mitchell said everyone had been enjoying the championships and that was why people loved coming to Fiji.

“Everyone is very hospitable, very kind and supportive to the athletes and officials so it’s always a pleasure coming to Fiji,” he said.

“The people are friendly, food is delicious, accomodation is welcoming.”

Weightlifting Fiji president Atma Maharaj said the event continued to lighten up with fans coming in numbers in the past three days.

“The competition is getting more exciting and coming towards the the heavier weight divisions, the competition will get tougher,” said Maharaj.

In the medal tally Turkey leads the men’s division with one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Italy, Uzbekistan, USA and Latvia share the second place with a gold each with no silver or bronze medals.

In the women’s division China leads with four gold medals, Vietnam at second place with one gold and one silver and USA at third place with one gold medal.
