Policies aimed at unscrupulous slumlords under review

STRINGENT policies aimed at unscrupulous slumlords who charge excessive rents is currently under review.

This was revealed by the Minister for House and Community Development Premila Kumar in Parliament today.

“There are unscrupulous slumlords who charge excessive rents; and opportunists who try to take advantage of Government’s programs to grab land from those in genuine need,” she said.

“A review of the housing policies and related programs has begun in collaboration with a Housing policy advisor from New Zealand.

“In addition, both the Housing Authority and the Public Rental Board will be restricted to improve service delivery.”
