POLICE have warned members of the public travelling along the Nabouwalu Labasa Highway to take precaution in this wet weather.
This follows an incident on Thursday when a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old veered off the road at Dama Highway in Bua.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the driver was with another passenger in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
“The incident happened at 2am on Thursday morning,” she said.
“The vehicle veered off the road and hit a bus shelter by the roadside landing the driver in hospital.
“So far the driver has stabilised at the Labasa Hospital.”
Earlier, Fiji Roads Authority had advised motorists in a statement to drive cautiously on the road because of road conditions.
“Flood affected areas may have changed the road surface in some places, expect an increase in the number of potholes,” the statement read.
“FRA contractors will be carrying out remedial work as soon as the weather clears up. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution during this time.”
