The Southern Division Community Policing team of the Fiji Police Force was deployed to Beqa recently following the discovery of marijuana on the island.

The visit is part of the awareness campaign on the impact of the illicit drug trade.

While speaking at Waisomo Village, Southern Division Deputy Police Commander SP Savenaca Vunisa said police were concerned about the discovery of the illicit drugs on the island.

He said the organisation’s focus was to address the issue before it got out of control.

According to police, the team that comprised officers from various units also used the opportunity to talk about new and emerging crime trends, and concerns over crimes such as cybercrime, sexual offences, crimes against women and children and domestic violence.
