Police vehicle hits suspect

AN incident in Nadi on Sunday where a suspect being pursued by policemen on foot was hit by a police vehicle travelling at high speed is being investigated, says Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew.

He also said part of the probe would be in relation to the fact that the police officers involved did not report the incident.

The incident was caught on a CCTV camera and the video has gone viral on social media platforms.

In the incident which happened in Nadi on Sunday, the footage showed two police officers chasing the suspect on foot.

The suspect managed to evade the officers and in the process of getting away, a police vehicle travelling at high speed hit him.

“I have directed the Divisional Police Commander West to provide a detailed report of the incident which allegedly occurred on Sunday,” Mr Chew said.

“I have directed investigations to be conducted in relation to the accident and the officers’ failure to report the accident and for necessary disciplinary actions to be taken.”

Mr Chew said the victim was admitted in hospital and in a stable condition.
