THE Fiji Police Force is urging parents and guardians to have an open line of communication with their children at all times during this school holiday.

Spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the two key issues that must be prioritised over the next two weeks was that of safety and communication.

“We urge parents and guardians to have an open line of communication with their children at all times so that they are not caught in a regrettable situation that could jeopardise their safety,” she said.

Ms Naisoro said there would be a lot of holiday activities including sports during the school break and it was crucial for parents to know who their children were spending their time with.

She said officers out on operations would often find children gathered in groups and sitting around in bus shelters or at parks without the knowledge of their parents.

Some children, she said, returned to their homes in the early hours of the morning.

“Please ensure children are well supervised at all times, and with a responsible adult,” she added.
