The Fiji Police Force will use drones when school resumes next week to ensure there is a free flow of traffic.

Police chief operations officer ACP Abdul Khan said the use of drones would help them gauge traffic and deploy officers to traffic hot spot areas.

He said drones would provide them real-time data, which would assist them in managing traffic.

“Understanding the traffic flows, doing the traffic management review so we can have the smart deployment on the ground to see there is a free flow of traffic and people are assisted out there to reach their destination on time as they are going home,” he said.

The force reviewed its traffic management operations towards the end of last year, to identify and improve on weak areas. ACP Khan is urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant as they prepare to send their children back to school.

“The roads will get busy during peak hours and safety must be emphasised at all times.”

He said officers would be mobilised at main road junctions and outside the schools.
