THE Police Blue rugby side has been handed a tough task to help Olympic Games gold medallist Kitione Taliga stake his claim in the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team.
Police 7s manager Tomasi Seviua said the utility backline player sought the help of the Police team who he believed can help him improve his game.
“The level of fitness Kiti has at the moment will surely help him this weekend,” Seviua said.
“We expect him to play good rugby and he knows our expectation too.
Seviua said they were optimistic Taliga would show the coach that he had the ability to have another shot at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
Police will be looking to win its third title this season at the Marist 7s this weekend.
The Nasova-based side won the Mana Whey Coral Coast 7s and Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s earlier this year.
Former Fiji 7s rep Sitiveni Waqa will lead one team which will have the services of rising star Sakeo Railoa, playmaker Taliga, Livai Ikanikoda and experienced Mitieli Nacagilevu.
Meanwhile, 64 teams will compete in the tournament that will start on Friday and ends on Saturday at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva.
The Marist 7s tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday.
Tabadamu is the defending champion.
