POLICE will continue its probe on a Police player who assaulted Raiwasa Taveuni player Manueli Maisamoa over the weekend despite publicly announcing that he had forgiven his assailant.

Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu yesterday revealed that the assailant, Manueli Sevutia, was no longer part of the Police 7s team and that four other players that received yellow cards during the game have been issued warning letters.

Tudravu says the Police White side would not feature in the third leg of the Fiji Rugby Union series in Savusavu next week.

“Investigation into the incident is being done and those responsible will be held accountable,” he said.

“I am extremely disappointed with the actions of those involved as it goes against the principles of why Police are participating in sporting tournaments through Community Policing.”

Two Police teams participated at the Nawaka 7s last weekend in Nadi. The two-day tournament was won by the Fiji Warriors after beating Fiji Barbarian in the final.

Most team that participated in the Nawaka 7s have also signed up for the ‘Rise Fiji Rise’ 7s tournament in Levuka this weekend.
