Police special response unit commended

THE Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) has been commended for their quick response in assisting three emergency cases yesterday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a Police ambulance coordinated by PSRU was deployed to assist medical officials transport three passengers who were seriously injured when the bus they were traveling in veered off the road near Vunaniu, Serua yesterday afternoon.

“A man in his 20s and two women sustained serious injuries when the bus driven by a man in his 30s allegedly veered off the road while trying to overtake another vehicle,” Ms Naisoro said.

“One other passenger remains admitted at the Navua Hospital while eight others were treated and sent home,” she said.

She said the efforts put in by the officers in the care and transportation of the three emergency cases from Navua to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital has been commended by senior health officials.

“The coordination between Emergency Officials and Police improved the response time and the Ministry of Health has acknowledged the assistance of the PSRU team which has greatly improved pre-hospital care response.”

The driver is yet to be questioned.
