Update: 1:14PM THE Fiji Police Force is working towards improving its policies so that officers can better handle reports of sexual assault and gender-based violence, says the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.
Brig-Gen Qiliho made the comments during the Speaker’s Debate held last night at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva with the theme – “Is Fiji making progress in tackling violence against women and girls”.
He said one of the key areas was ensuring that there are women police officers on duty at all police stations at all times.
He also thanked the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre for working closely with the police force in organising workshops to train officers to understand violence against women in order to respond better to reports of gender-based violence.
