THE Fiji Police boxing team is hoping to secure its fifth win at this year’s Sukuna Bowl Challenge boxing competition.

Coach Ropate Sivo said this year’s competition was very challenging because they had recruited some new boxers to the force.

“We have new boxers who have just recently been recruited by the Fiji Police and joined the boxing team.

These boxers we had to teach them the basic skills for the past three months and to see how they have performed is a big bonus.”

“Our new boxers in the team this year are Jiuta Vulaono, Jobe Roko, Tomasi Naulu, Pita Waqabaca, Mark Petero and Epeli Baro and we have worked hard together with our senior boxers to reach this level. The competition has been intense for the past years and it keeps moving up one level. Not a lot of people take part in this sport because they are scared so we try to change their mind-set in looking at the sport from another perspective.”

Sivo added that since their head coach Viliame Vitukalulu is away in Iraq for duties he hoped that they will make this year a special one and win it for him.

“He has been our rock and telling us what to do and without him here the boys are continuing to fight and hopefully win it. Come final day on Friday may the best team win and I know we will do the talking inside the ring.”

Result day 2 winners: 69kg- Pauliasi Ratu 81kg- Jone Mau 91kg- Cena Ruata 91kg+ Paula Rova
