THE current road death toll stands at 64 compared to 61 for the same period last year says Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

She said speeding and drunk driving continue to be a major concern for the Fiji Police Force.

She also stated that more than 51,000 speeding infringement notices have been issued to date with more than 1,000 drivers arrested due to drunk driving.

Ms Naisoro adds the force will continue to plead with the public to take road safety seriously.

“However it is ultimately up to every individual on whether they want to listen and comply and whether they value their lives of their loved ones,” she said.
“Keeping in mind that failure to take the advisories seriously could result in injury or the loss of lives.”
