POLICE are requesting motorists to be mindful of the presence of officers manning checkpoints over the coming weeks.

Fiji Police Force director operations SSP Abdul Khan said snap checkpoints would be erected at any given time and location as part of the ongoing festive season operations Yadrayadravi.

SSP Khan said Police had recorded a few incidents where drivers have not co-operated or have posed to be a safety threat to the police officers manning these sites

“Last week two police officers manning a checkpoint at Wainadoi narrowly escaped being seriously harmed when a driver refused to stop when directed to and drove right through the Checkpoint, while the week before a woman officer was bumped while redirecting traffic in Nakasi whereby she sustained minor injuries,” he said.

“Both drivers have since been charged, however noting the fact that snap checkpoints will be erected on a regular basis throughout Operation Yadrayadravi, we do request drivers to cooperate with officers when asked to slow down or pull over.”

Police have also called on everyone’s support over the coming weeks.
