Search operations for a father and his daughter who were alleged to have been swept away by strong currents while trying to cross the Wainikavou creek in Naimasimasi, Serua has been called off.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the search had gone on for nine days.

“The search efforts went on for nine days and a decision has been made to call off the search over the weekend,” she said.

It is alleged that secondary school teacher Napolioni Kaitavu had gone to pick his two children from school when the incident occurred.

His wife Rosa Vigakoto had earlier told this newspaper that her eldest daughter Aliti Kaitavu was horse backing on his father when they were trying to cross the flooded creek.

“We miss them so much and we hope they were still alive,” she said.
