PNG name Orchids side

PORT MORESBY, 26 SEPTEMBER 2018 (POST COURIER) – Oil Search PNG Orchids chairman Ruth Waram yesterday named the team to take on the Australian Jillaroos on October 6 at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Waram said: “The Orchids celebrated their first year in active rugby league on August 15 and it is a milestone for the team and opportunities often come on for the expose and development of the players to reach greater height.
“Playing against the Australians is nerve breaking but the girls will surely perform to the best of their abilities.”
Oil Search government affairs general manager Wayne Kasou said the company is enhancing at empowering women through sports.
“Women must be empowered by all the stake holders as we want gender equality to work hand in hand.
“Development and empowering women is very important and it works well in sports,” said Kasou.
PNG Orchids head coach David Westley thanked PNGRFL for having faith in appointing him as the head coach and putting a side together.
“I am proud of the team I am confident they will perform in the game,” he said.
“We had a good run against the Brisbane Bronco girls in Brisbane last week and the girls were fantastic they put up fabulous performance.
“We are working on a five year plan leading to the World Cup in 2021 and grateful to be the head coach.”
The team will assemble in Port Moresby tomorrow and will go for light training.
