PM Rabuka: Fiji committed to work closely with Kiribati

Fiji is committed to work closely with Kiribati, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has informed President of Kiribati Taneti Maamau.
While in Papua New Guinea for the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Co-operation (FIPIC) Summit, Mr Rabuka told President Maamau on the re-establishment of the Rabi Island Council.
Mr Rabuka said the administration was now fully operational, with an interim administrator to oversee operations of the council.
Part of the discussions also focused on land belonging to the Government of Kiribati — Natoavatu Estate in Vanua Levu.
To further bolster relations between the two countries, Mr Rabuka said the country was also in the process of screening Rabi lawyers, educators and health professionals who could work in Kiribati to assist in the nation’s development.
Both leaders also spoke on the need to work collaboratively to address challenges in line with the 2050 Strategy.
