Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says Parliament is on track to hold its first sitting next week.

Yesterday, members from both Government and the Opposition benches convened for a business committee meeting to discuss the agenda of the first sitting.

The business committee is a select committee of the Parliament of Fiji and determines the business to be considered by Parliament each sitting day.

“It is a normal process before a sitting,” Mr Rabuka said.

“The business committee sits to consider the proposal from the general secretariat of Parliament and the meeting is chaired by the Honourable Speaker and it goes through Order Papers and in this case, order for the contributions in the debate on the address by His Excellency.

“We still have the division of views between the Opposition and the Government, which is to be expected but we had very good discussions.”

Details of the discussion during the meeting were confidential.

Four members from each side were represented.

The Government representatives included: PM Rabuka, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Professor Biman Prasad, DPM Viliame Gavoka and Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya.

The Opposition was led by Leader Voreqe Bainimarama.

He was joined by Faiyaz Koya, Viliame Naupoto and Alvick Maharaj.

Mr Bainimarama refused to talk when he was approached for a comment by the media.
