Government will not entertain dancing in nightclubs that have been allowed to operate during the festive season.

And nightclubs that fail to maintain COVID-19 restrictions during the festive season will be shut down, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama told Parliament yesterday.

He said the nationwide curfew would remain and so as restrictions on large public gatherings and sporting events.

“Those former nightclubs that have been granted approval to operate in venues, where people can eat and share these with their friends, must play by the rules,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“No dancing, break the rules and you will be shut down.”

He said travellers to Fiji during this festive season must get tested before boarding their flights.

Meanwhile, he said two border quarantine cases had been identified over the weekend on board a freight vessel from New Zealand.

“We are in the process of confirming these test results. Anyone who had any chance of contracting the virus has been entered into quarantine.”

He said COVID-19 restrictions had remained in place.

He said every Fijian had a role to play in the fight against COVID-19 and the nation relied on nurses, doctors and the disciplined forces.

“And we will rely on ordinary citizens to cement the changes that we have made in the ways we live our lives and to respect the health protection message which remain in place.”
