Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama told the British people that with 86 per cent of Fijian adults fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Fiji is ready to welcome them back to its shores.

He made the comment while speaking at the Reset Fiji Tourism program in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday night.

Mr Bainimarama said the Fijian Government was “entirely confident” in its ability to manage the risks associated with quarantine-free travel.

He said Fiji was “in an excellent position to reopen its borders”.

“With the lives and livelihoods of our people at stake, we vaccinated more of our population over a faster timeline than almost any other country,” the PM said.

“Eighty-six per cent of adults in Fiji are fully vaccinated and ninety-six per cent have received one dose, making us the safest we have been since the pandemic began.

“From December 1, Fiji will be welcoming visitors from an exclusive list of travel partner countries and that list includes the United Kingdom.

“Fully vaccinated travellers who have spent at least 10 days here in the UK can arrive at the airport with a recent negative PCR test result and then travel on the plane to Fiji.

“Upon arrival, they can head straight to the hotel they have booked and enjoy all the amenities on-site.

“We’ll require an additional Day 2 test, as you do here in the UK before they are granted free rein of travel safe areas in Fiji.

“We’ve made the best of Fiji available to our visitors, the best of our beaches, our reefs, our forests, and waterfalls.

“It will all be open.”
