FIJI’S November 14 general election will be held in a free, fair and transparent manner, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has assured.

Speaking during the Fiji Day celebrations in Sydney, Australia on Saturday, Mr Bainimarama said every Fijian vote was important.

“Every vote will matter equally, every voice will be heard, and the outcome will reflect the genuine will of the Fijian people,” he said.

“But, even though elections may be around the corner, today (Saturday) isn’t a day for politics,” he told Fijians who attended the celebrations.

“It’s a day to celebrate everything that is great about being a Fijian.

“It’s a day to celebrate our unity regardless of whatever political differences may exist between us.”

Mr Bainimarama said the Fijian identity was not defined by ethnicity, nor religion, language, status in life, gender or physical ability.

“It is defined, above all, by our love of country and our love of one another, and that is why we celebrate Fiji Day.”
