PM: 5998 leases with 99-year term issued

A TOTAL of 5998 leases with a tenure term of 99 years have been issued by the iTaukei Land Trust Board and the Land Bank in the past 10 years.This was revealed by Prime Minister and Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Voreqe Bainimarama in his response to a written question by Opposition MP Ro Kiniviliame Kiliraki on the number of 99-year leases that have been granted by TLTB and the Land Bank for the past 10 years.

“The 5998 leases cover a land area of 34,803.98 hectares and collectively provide an annual rental income of $4,395,139.73,” Mr Bainimarama said.

Out of the 5998 leases, 4688 are categorised as active status while 1310 are classified as created status where lease offer were accepted.

Of the 4688 active status leases, 1417 were issued to the Central Eastern Division, 579 to the North Western Division, 701 in the North, 1917 in the South Western Division while 74 were issued for tourism.

And of the 1310 created status leases, 132 were issued to the Central Eastern Division, 51 to the North Western, 489 to the North, 634 were issued to the South Western Division and four
were issued for tourism.
