TWENTY eight Lautoka Raiders AFL Football Club players will compete for a spot in the Australian Football League Fiji team that will compete at next year’s Aussie Rules World Cup.

The players were part of the Western Force team that brought home the 2019 Vanua Cup Challenge.

Western Force Coach Luke Snow said the players were vying for a spot in the 28-man team.

“It’s a big challenge for them because it will not be easy,” he said. “They are competing against players who have been playing this game for a number of years.

“But they know what to expect and they are willing to take on that challenge.”

He said the players were invited to try out for the world cup team by AFL Fiji.

“They saw the potential in our boys and we are very happy that they approached us after our win.

“There is a total of 70 players that were invited to the trials. Out of that 70, they will select only the best.

“Our boys know what they need to do and I am confident that some of them will be selected.”

The Lautoka Raiders AFL Football Club was formed last year by youths from Navutu Settlement.
