THE Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) are discussing vaccination plans for people at the various evacuation centres.

“We’ve had the discussions with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in regards to the evacuation centres and as well as vaccinations being made available at the evacuation centres,” NDMO director Vasiti Soko said.

The health ministry has been urging members of the public to refrain from mass gatherings. The ministry had also announced last Friday it had ceased the national measles campaign until further notice.

“Members of the public will be informed when the campaign will recommence,” the ministry said in a statement.

In earlier advisories the ministry cautioned that measles was very contagious and to help stop the spread of the disease, people needed to take precautionary measures.

There are presently 25 confirmed measles cases in the country.
