NATIONAL airline Fiji Airways is looking to renew its widebodied fleet after undergoing an extensive acquisition to replace its narrowbodied aircraft.

This was confirmed by Fiji Airways managing director and CEO Andre Viljoen who explained that the airline’s widebodied aircraft were comprised of Airbus A330s.

“Similar to the extensive process we followed to achieve a ground breaking deal for our Boeing MAX 8s, we are in a similar evaluation and selection campaign for the widebody fleet that is the renewal of our Airbus A330s,” he said.

“We are seeking a solution for an aircraft type which will meet our future growth requirements.

“We will announce our choice of widebody aircraft in the coming months.”

He said obtaining the five Boeing 737 MAX 8s was rigorous process.

“This is a significant and long term decision for our airline, and therefore warranted a rigorous, thorough and transparent process to ensure we found the right solution for Fiji Airways and for Fiji.

“As a result of the fierce competition between rival bidders and the extensive review and selection process, we achieved a groundbreaking package deal that represents excellent value for our shareholders, customers and stakeholders.

“It is a tripartite package deal with Boeing, the leasing company GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) and engine manufacturer CFM International.

“This partnership includes a 12-year Sale and Leaseback financing arrangement.”
