RELOCATION is one of the avenues Government is considering to ease the burden of 16 families of Draubuta Village affected by a landslide earlier this month.
Minister for Disaster Management Jone Usamate visited the village yesterday and had a talanoa session with the residents affected.
He also held a talanoa session with the affected families.
One of the affected residents, Netani Nasove, said they were now planning to clean their houses. “We used to carry all the soil up and after the rain finished, people got sick too,” he said.
“The minister came and they said they will provide the things for people whose houses were damaged, any facilities that was damaged, they will provide and the minister said it will take time.
“They have to relocate this village to a new place so the people can build their house so this can’t reach that place.
“All the people who have been staying here want to move, there is still plenty of sand and gravel that can come down so we want to move to another safe place.”
Last week, the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development through the district office in Navosa began co-ordinating assistance and assessment for affected villagers.
Health Ministry officials had also visited the village to assess the possibility of an outbreak of diseases following the landslide.
