Plans to make the walk for children an annual one

Update: 3:46PM THE organisers of the “Walk for Education and Zero Tolerance against Child Abuse” are planning to make the event an annual one.

Savneel Sangeet who is the team leader for the walk which is
currently taking place around Viti Levu said they have been receiving positive response
and wonderful feedback from the public.

The Foundation for the
Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC) had organised this 416km walkathon
around Viti Levu with the aim to generate $100,000 to help needy children’s
educational needs.

“The response from the public is excellent and we are
planning for this to be an annual event,” Mr Sangeet said.

When contacted a while ago by the Fiji Times Online team, Mr
Sangeet said they had started their walk from Namoli village this morning and
began a 65km walk to Tavua Fijian School which is their next pit stop.

“We started off with five today and the other four had to be
taken by our vehicle because they were a bit tired. I am the only one
completing this leg of the walk,” he said.

But Mr Sangeet said the other four had completed 35km of today’s
walk.

Meanwhile 12 high profile
Fijians, including Miss World Fiji 2017, Nanise Rainima and renowned rugby
players have pledged their support for this cause.

Miss Rainima who is also
FENC Fiji ambassador will join in the walk later this week.
