Plans in place to address Nadi flooding

Update: 11:29AM GOVERNMENT plans are in place to address flooding in Nadi and other preparatory works to reduce the impacts of climate change in Fiji.

Attorney General
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign
Affairs Iwao Horii yesterday to discuss the proposed projects.

“Japan’s experience
in addressing extreme weather events, paired with its cutting-edge technology
and innovative thinking, can greatly assist us in moving forward the Nadi River
Flood Protection Project,” said Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

“We look forward to
further building upon the already-strong relationship between the Japanese and
Fijian people.”

Mr Horii also
expressed Japan’s continued support in the global fight against climate change,
and encouraged closer Fijian-Japanese cooperation in other areas of shared
strategic interest.
