Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro yesterday announced plans for a National Education Summit to ensure Fiji’s curriculum was relevant and on par with global demands.
After a welcome ceremony at the ministry, Mr Radrodro said he would submit a proposal to Cabinet for a review of the curriculum to align it with the demands of the fast-evolving world.
“We will be submitting to Cabinet to have a National Education Summit to allow us all to collectively address the issues we need to address as partners and stakeholders of the education sector in Fiji,” he said.
Mr Radrodro said while changes are to be expected with the change in Government, people should not be daunted by what the changes could bring.
“You will have noted in the last few days that there will be changes happening in the ministry, changes can be a good thing but they can also be daunting.
“I can assure you that I do not expect anyone to be uncomfortable with the changes being brought in by the coalition Government.”
Mr Radrodro also said the ministry was faced with a range of issues and these would be addressed in a timely manner.
While he kept the mood light, the minister used the forum to issue a stern warning to all teachers to refrain from grog swiping during the school week.
He also said teachers who were involved in sexual offences would be taken to task.
