Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian has reiterated that China would continue to align its development strategies with the Fijian Government and military support.
He added that tackling the challenges of climate change, developing the ocean economy and enhancing capacity for international peace keeping would also be pursued.
Mr Jian made the comment at the deck reception on board the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy Qi Jiguang ship last week.
He said since the beginning of 2023, high-level visits and training visits between the two militaries had overcome the impact of the pandemic.
Mr Jian said the ship visit was about friendship, hands-on experience, and co-operation between the two countries.
Ministry of Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua said although the two countries were separated by vast oceans, it has found unity in mutual goals through multifaceted initiatives in trade, infrastructure development, cultural exchanges, and educational partnerships.
“Our collaborations have illuminated our path, be it the infrastructure projects that stand tall in our cities, the cultural festivals that celebrate our shared histories, or the educational scholarships that promise a brighter future for our youth,” he said.
“During the visit, the leaders of the ship forged sincere friendship and had in-depth and friendly exchanges and interactions with local naval officers.”
The ship berthed at the Suva Port on Thursday carrying more than 300 training cadets and departed Fiji on yesterday for mainland China.
