FijiFirst leader Voreqe Bainimarama is a nuisance, says Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua.

His was one of the many unflattering descriptions lauded on the former prime minister after he launched three successive tirades – in just as many days – against the new coalition Government.

Mr Bainimarama has been claiming that the Rabuka-led Government was “oppressive and repressive” and that people were living in fear.

Mr Tikoduadua said the comments, made without evidence, were concerning and a team was looking into the allegations made.

Fiji Council of Social Services executive director Vani Catanasiga labelled the statements “inciteful”, while former PM Mahendra Chaudhry called on Mr Bainimarama to “take a rest”.

Deputy PM and Social Democratic Liberal Party leader Viliame Gavoka called Mr Bainimarama “an expert in manufacturing dissension which he did against prime minister Qarase”.

“What is obvious is that for the people of Fiji, there is a spring in their step,” he said.

“They are walking with energy showing they are feeling happy and confident.

“It was never like this over the last 16 years.”
