There is drama unfolding at the 52nd Pacific Forum Leaders Meeting in Cook Islands with a walkout by the President of Nauru David Adeang from this morning’s plenary session for the leaders.

Nauru is supporting its candidate, Baron Waqa to be elected as the new Secretary General of the Forum Secretariat tomorrow.

However, President Adeang stormed out of the meeting this morning when the selection of the Secretary General post was introduced as an agenda item.

After the Nauru delegation left, leaders allowed members of the remaining Micronesian block that includes Palau, Kiribati and Marshall Islands to meet privately and report back to the leaders plenary currently underway.

Forum chairman Mark Brown urged Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to intervene if required to bring back Nauru to the discussion table.
