Pick your favourite species

NATUREFIJI-MareqetiViti is inviting members of the public to participate in voting for their favourite endangered species in Fiji.

The public will have to choose from 10 different endangered species; the vokai or crested iguana, the darautabua plant, flying fox, the Fiji petrel, the taku or Hawksbill Turtle, the Sago palm, the kulawai or red-throated lorikeet, the Fiji swallowtail butterfly and the free tailed bat.

In their latest effort to raise awareness, NFMV director Nunia Thomas said that over the years they had sought to raise public awareness on Fiji’s endemic species.

She said it would be easier to get information on Australia’s and New Zealand’s wildlife rather than the wildlife in Fiji.

In order to address this, NFMV has compiled a web -based collection of 50 of Fiji’s most endangered species for public viewing.
